The gaps against GoDaddy are narrow but real. Mailboxes are rationed by tier — one on the entry plan, five at the top — where GoDaddy bundles more generously, and the CDN is withheld from the cheapest plan. The headline prices are first-term rates on a one-year commitment that roughly double on renewal, which is the same pricing pattern GoDaddy uses, so the comparison is like for like rather than a saving.

The listed parent is IONOS Group SE, which floated on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on 8 February 2023 at EUR 18.50 a share and trades in the Prime Standard segment under the ticker IOS, in the MDAX and TecDAX. United Internet holds 63.8% of the capital, Helikon 6.1% and Wellington 3.0%, leaving a free float of 23.5% as of 30 June 2026.

The group reported total revenue of around EUR 1.316 billion for 2025, up 5.5%, and more than six million customers across 17 markets in Europe and North America. The catalogue reaches well past hosting: domains, mail, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, website and shop builders, shared hosting, VPS, dedicated and bare-metal servers, and an IONOS Cloud with managed Kubernetes, object storage, managed databases, load balancers and GPU instances. Nextcloud Workspace and the AI Model Hub are sold as the sovereign answers to Microsoft 365 and the American model APIs. IONOS Group also owns STRATO, Arsys, Fasthosts, home.pl, world4you, InterNetX, united-domains and Sedo.

IONOS does not own the buildings its cloud runs in. Its own data-centre page lists ten Compute Engine locations — two in Frankfurt plus Berlin, Paris, London, Worcester, Logroño, Las Vegas, Newark and Lenexa — and names colocation operators rather than IONOS sites, with Frankfurt 1 run by Equinix. The cloud infrastructure and its data centres are certified to ISO 27001 on the basis of the BSI’s IT-Grundschutz, energy management is certified to ISO 50001, and the company states it buys 100% renewable electricity for its data centres.
